Before starting the Double Dropkick Show, I(Heath) did not have a great knowledge or appreciation for Memphis wrestling so I certainly didn’t have a clue about Jerry Jarrett’s true impact on the wrestling business. On this episode, Mark and I discuss his time in Memphis and the innovations he started that are still seen today including the Tupelo Concession Stand Brawl.

On this special edition of The Double Dropkick Show, Heath Mullikin and Mark Whitman look back at the Match that started it all. It’s the World Tag Team Championship Match from World Wide Wrestling on July 13, 1985. It was an entire episode devoted to The Rock N Roll Express vs. The Russians. As we started watching, I(Heath) realized that I had never actually seen the entire episode because we came in late after church. Everyone in Crockett Promotions went all in in putting Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson over as major players. It was especially strange to see Dusty Rhodes and Ric Flair on screen together agreeing on something. Have you ever watched this full episode before? It was ground breaking and hooked us on wrestling!

We also share some thoughts on DC’s recent moves and what we would like to see from their upcoming offerings. What do you think? Can DC rebound? What does Marvel need to do to keep people engaged?

February 2014 is when Mark Whitman and I first sat down to record the Double Dropkick Show. The WWE Network hadn’t launched, Peacock didn’t exist, and Donald Trump was simply a WWE Hall of Famer. Our lives have changed as has the rest of the world in these 9 years. On this episode, we take a look back and catch you up on what’s happened in our lives since we dropped our last episode in April 2022.

This is the longest episode we have ever recorded.  It started out as a discussion about Cody Rhodes leaving AEW and the implications of that.  Then the conversation takes lots of twists and turns to the point that I forgot we were even recording a podcast.  It just became 2 friends enjoying a conversation including the realization that Mark has gotten into the NBA.  As we celebrate 8 years of the podcast, this episode provides the essence for our relationship and the show.
